8.27.20— Connie Maxwell Children’s Home is pleased to announce that Jay Boyd has joined the executive team as vice president for strategic initiatives. In this new role, Boyd will lead fundraising initiatives and other opportunities related to a strategic plan set to launch on October 1.
“Jay will bring energy, enthusiasm, and longtime experience to the table as we build a foundation to increase support, execute our dreams, and plan a future campaign to fund those dreams for children and families,” said Connie Maxwell President William D. Nicholson II.
Boyd has a long history of being connected to Christian child welfare that began at an early age with his parents. His mother led advancement efforts at Florida Baptist Children’s Home for more than 20 years, and his father served as a youth pastor.
Thinking back on his early roots, Boyd recalled a time when a young boy from the children’s home spent Thanksgiving weekend with his family.
“We were about 13 years old, and had been together for several days with my family hunting, fishing, and doing stuff that this kid had never done before,” Boyd said.
He vividly remembers a moment when they were sitting on the tailgate of his grandfather’s truck as they rode across a freshly cut peanut field to go dove hunting.
“Suddenly, this kid started to breakdown and cry,” Boyd said. “Finally, I asked him if he was okay, and he just looked at me and said, ‘you have no idea how good you have it.’”
Boyd realized this was probably one of the first moments in this child’s life that he had ever seen what a family looks like. “I’ve never forgotten that look—that moment, and that is why we are here.”
Boyd can see the immeasurable impact that spending time on that campus with the children had on his life. That is partly what motivated him to move his family to Greenwood. “Living in Greenwood allows my family and I to be more closely connected to the frontlines of the mission of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. What a blessing!”
He is also excited about working for an organization with strong leadership and vision. “In my time getting to know Danny and watching this ministry from a distance, it is clear there is solid leadership with a vision to make a huge impact on children and families across South Carolina. I would be a fool to pass up on the opportunity to play a small role in what God could do over the next ten years for His kingdom!”
Boyd most recently served as Director of Development for Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Leadership from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., and a bachelor’s degree from Samford University, Birmingham, Ala. He is currently enrolled as an M.B.A student at Samford University’s Brock School of Business. He earned his Credentialed Certified Nonprofit Leader (CCNL) certification from the Christian Leadership Alliance in 2016.
Boyd is an avid hunter who enjoys all outdoor activities. He and his wife Lauren have two children, Brayden and Isabella.
