Holland, one of our high school students, recently had an exciting experience participating in the Miss Emerald High School pageant for the first time. After several weeks of practice and preparation, Holland’s hard work paid off. She earned the honor of first runner-up to Miss Junior—a fantastic achievement!
For Holland, this event was so meaningful for her. “The confidence I felt standing there on stage, and looking into the crowd and seeing everyone that came to support me is a very special memory that I will never forget.”
Holland received valuable support and guidance from Kirby Elizabeth Self, a Greenwood native who was crowned Miss Emerald in 2017 and currently holds the title of Miss South Carolina USA.
Self generously shared her expertise and experience with Holland, helping her feel confident and poised on stage.
Expressing her enthusiasm for assisting Holland, Self remarked, “Empowering others through encouragement is what being Miss South Carolina USA is all about and having the opportunity to work with Holland for the Miss Emerald pageant was a moment that will always hold a special place in my heart. Watching her walk across the stage with grace and confidence will be one of the highlights of my year.”
Mentorship, as evidenced in Holland’s journey, serves as a catalyst for our students’ empowerment, enabling them not only to realize their full potential but also to pursue their aspirations with confidence.
Additionally, Holland and several of the girls’ cottages had the special opportunity to meet Self and take photos together and spend time together, creating memorable moments for our students.
We want to congratulate Holland on her success and express our gratitude to Self for her mentorship and encouragement.
