At Connie Maxwell Children’s Ministries, we believe in empowering the next generation to walk boldly into their futures, and our recent Professional Development Day was a beautiful reflection of that mission. In collaboration with the Miss Greenwood Organization, led by the radiant and passionate Naimah Cabbagestalk (Miss Greenwood herself), we created a space for our girls to feel seen, celebrated, and equipped for their next steps.
The original vision for the day was to provide each girl with a donated interview dress—many of which were brand new, generously given by pageant participants who know the power of showing up confidently and professionally. After selecting their dresses, our plan was to pamper the girls with hair and makeup makeovers and capture professional headshots they could use for resumes and cover letters.
But as life often reminds us, things don’t always go according to plan.
Despite the hair and makeup teams being unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts, the heart of the day remained intact. We shifted gears, but we did not slow down. We showed up—and so did the girls.
Instead of makeovers, the focus shifted toward inner transformation—developing the confidence, communication, and poise needed for real-world success. Miss Greenwood graciously stepped in to host mock interviews, coaching each young woman through the art of representing themselves with strength and grace. Her feedback emphasized:
- Maintaining eye contact
- Cultivating a confident voice
- Presenting with a relaxed and authentic demeanor
Each girl rose to the occasion. Though nerves were present, courage showed up louder. They stood tall in their new dresses—beauty queens in their own right—not because of what they wore, but because of the way they wore it. After their interviews, we saw new sparks of belief in their eyes. Their shoulders stood higher. Their voices stronger. Their presence more powerful.
This day wasn’t just about getting dressed up—it was about growing up, showing up, and knowing who you are.
And while the day didn’t unfold exactly as we imagined, it became something even more powerful: a reminder that grace meets us in the pivot. God’s purpose doesn’t depend on perfect plans—He works best in the unexpected.
“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” — Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)
We are so proud of our girls for conquering their anxieties and embracing the moment. Thank you to Naimah Cabbagestalk, the Miss Greenwood Organization, and every soul who contributed to making this day one they will never forget. Beauty isn’t just about appearance—it’s about courage, character, and calling. And these young women are walking boldly into all three.
